As Coronavirus has become the biggest story globally, and news about it bombarding us at every turn, there is a startling turn in the conversation about treatment that no one seems to be talking about.
PREVENTION. While proper hand washing absolutely counts as prevention and is widely touted, there needs to be more conversation about boosting our immune system to be able to resist this and other infections. The key to not getting sick, and once sick overcoming it quickly is to have a strong immune system. And this is something that we have control over.
Natural anti-virals such as Vitamin C have a proven track record. And Vitamin C is fairly cheap and widely available, except for times like this.
According to Andrew Saul, editor of Orthomolecular Medicine News Service (OMNS) on January 26, 2020 “the coronavirus pandemic can be dramatically slowed, or stopped with the immediate widespread use of high doses of Vitamin C. Physicians have demonstrated the powerful antiviral action of Vitamin C for decades. There has been a lack of media coverage of this effective and successful approach against viruses in general, and Coronavirus in particular.”
Vitamin C use to fight viral illness has been traced back to its early success against polio, first reported in the late 1940’s (Klenner ). Many people are very surprised to learn this. In my clinic I have used intravenous Vitamin C for many years for viruses and my patients know to come in at the first sign of illness to get one as it is both effective and fast.

There are currently 3 clinical studies using intravenous Vitamin C for COVID-19 in China. The doses being used are not very high- certainly I have used much higher doses in practice. But as they are being used for hospitalized patients, lower doses over longer period of times becomes feasible.
“A medical team from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University in China has reported the successful treatment of coronavirus patients with vitamin C. In a
press release posted on the hospital website, the team describes how patients suffering from severe coronary pneumonia, a potentially fatal complication of the new coronavirus COVID-19, have recovered after being treated with high doses of the vitamin. The medical team recommend that for critically ill patients and those with severe neonatal pneumonia, vitamin C treatment should be initiated as soon as possible after admission to hospital.”
In a further development, the Shanghai Medical Association (SMA) in China has published a
consensus on the comprehensive treatment of coronavirus disease. Based on the study of more than 300 clinical patients and developed by 30 experts in the treatment of new coronavirus
pneumonia, it recommends high-dose vitamin C for even light infection with the virus.
I have been recommending, in addition to the CDC guidance on proper hand washing, social distancing, and not touching the face, that people incorporate Vitamin C and other immune boosting therapeutics into their daily lives.
Unfortunately for the past week or so, all of my suppliers have run out of Vitamin C and the other immune boosting substances that we use. But I just placed a call with my supplier on my website and discovered a new shipment of Vitamin C products has just arrived.
